Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!

The pod loved exploring the museum open minds groups' "Me Museums"!  Good job everyone!

Please remember to return museum forms for the Glenbow Museum Open Minds group.

The Vivo group has been working on their heart mapping and the Zoo group is working on their animal wonders.  We can't wait to share them with you during conferences!

Please remember tomorrow is a half day as conferences start at 1:00.

March 19, 2019

Mountain View and Wild Rose have been exploring what they know about Alberta's history, Indigenous ways of knowing, customs and changes that know have occurred over the years.  This is a prelude to a novel study they will be starting, "A Ticket To Curlew".

Some of the pod explored the properties of liquids. Snowy Owl and Whispering Willow kids were sent home with the task of finding out what viscosity means and which liquid is has more viscosity (cooking oil, corn syrup, tap water).

Museum School students are reminded to bring their Museum of Me tomorrow and please return all Glenbow Museum forms as soon as possible.

We are still in need of volunteers for our Open Minds experiences.  Please sign up below if you can.

See you Thursday and Friday!

Reminders:
Half day Thursday
No School Friday
Spring Break next week

With the muddy weather and some students not wearing proper footwear, the teachers decided to postpone the community walk until after spring break.  Hopefully the pathways will be a bit less muddy.

Please help us to keep students out of the large puddles that have been forming in the ditch near the school.  We have told the students that it is not okay to go into the puddle as there is ice below the water.  We are also not allowing students to throw ice into the water.

Check out this link to find out more about today's Quest Theatre performance!

Today some of the students were searching for signs of spring.  What have you noticed around the community?

March 15, 2019

The Kindness Pod had a great time checking out Joy Pod's Open House today!

Some of the students started a new math group today.  The groups are all learning about addition and subtraction strategies such as part - part - whole, making ten, doubles and near doubles, and using these strategies to add numbers with increasing difficulty and automaticity.

Don't forget we will be going on a community walk Monday afternoon!

Conference Booking opens tomorrow morning.  You should have all received an email from the teacher who you should book with today.  If you did not receive an email today please contact one of the pod teachers and we will correct this.

Monday morning we have Quest Theatre coming in to perform for the students.

Open Minds forms went home for Mrs. Le's Museum Group only.

Yesterday's Pi Day celebration at TMC was a huge success!  We are very appreciative of all the work TMC did to make this day such a great experience for our students.

Tomorrow is our walk to TMC for Pi Day.  There we will participate in a number of math and pie related activities planned and organized by the TMC grade 5 team.  Please send students with a few good "pocket snacks" so that we don't need to take lunch kits with us.

Monday the 10th the Kindness Pod will enjoy a wonderful afternoon in the sun during a community walk.  The students will go to various locations depending on their Open Minds group.  If there are any

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

The spring Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences will be held Thursday and Friday, March 21/22, 2019. Registration for conferences will open at 7:00 am March 16, 2019, through CBE School Messenger, for all students from Kindergarten – Grade 4.
Students will be bringing home notices on Friday, March 15th, indicating the names of the Pod teacher(s) who are currently most connected to students for math and literacy (reading). Families will book conferences with the indicated teacher(s) in order to ensure they are appropriately connected to their child’s literacy and math learning. Part of the Conference experience will also provide families with the opportunity to explore the learning that has been happening within the Pod with your child as the leader. Families will also be able to informally connect with other Pod teachers when they are available.

Correction!

I apologize for the misinformation on the blog yesterday.

Pi Day is Thursday 14th not Wednesday.

March 11, 2019

This Wednesday, the students are heading to TMC to participate in Pi Day activities.  We will be there for the morning.  Please send extra pocket snacks as we will walk and eat.

Next week, the Kindness Pod will be going into the coulee on Monday afternoon to study the impact humans have on the coulee and what signs there are of human impact.

The Vivo group is working on a heart map.  As your child what they included in their map.

The Zoo group is looking into animal conservation and what that means.  Look around the community and see if you think there could be any animals in our community that are vulnerable or in danger of becoming extinct?  What could cause an animal to become endangered or extinct.

The Museum group is asking students to continue to gather artifacts for their Museum of Me.  Please bring artifacts in next Wednesday.

Here are a few student responses from Wonder Time today!

Kenzie-I did zen tangling. It is where you do arts and can draw your own art pages.

Bradley- Went to the lego center and made people and little jets. I used lego pieces on the back of my jets for boots so it would go really fast.

Ryker- I was at the math station and I made a really big rectangle around the class with connecting blocks.

Steven- I was at the iPad station and I was making videos and showing the videos around the school.

Lucas- Played basketball in the gym with my friends.

Kiran- We went on a walk and we saw some rabbit and deer (or dog) tracks and it was really cool. We got to practice being neat walkers and walking like deers.

Tara- Went to the newspaper space where we got to make stuff out of news paper. I made a bracelet.

March 14 is Pi Day. It is a day to celebrate the mathematical constant pi (π) and to eat lots of pie. ... Celebrated in countries that follow the month/day (m/dd) date format, because the digits in the date, March 14 or 3/14, are the first three digits of π (3.14).  For the past 2 years, we have been invited to TMC to participate in pie making, and various circumference and circle activities.  The Kindness Pod will be walking to TMC for the morning.  Please pack extra "Pocket Snacks" as we will eat while walking to and from TMC.

Today was Dress as your favorite book character day.  It was so great to see all of the kids sharing their love for literature.

Snowy Owl had a baby visit today.  The theme right now is safety.  Ask your children what can be done around the home to ensure safety.

This morning the Kindness Pod teachers attended an inservice on integrating iPads and apps in the classroom.  A great application we explored is called Clips.  It's a simple movie making app.  If you have an Apple device, see if you can create a movie!

Tomorrow is Wonder Time!  It is also oral story telling day.  Practice telling a story without reading it at home tonight and use the #ehshowweread
